Clash Over House Majority And Minority

The row on which party or coalition is the majority in the national assembly sparked debate among legislators on Tuesday during the house sitting.

The parties that ditched the Azimio la Umoja still maintain that they are part of Kenya Kwanza.

"Nikisimama hapa nashangaa kuskia ya kwamba watu wa Azimio-One Kenya coalition wanasema kuwa chama cha PAA ni miongoni mwa vile vyama viko katika muungano huo."

According to the Azimio coalition allies, the agreement with affiliate parties at the registrar of political parties requires them to quit three months after the election hence they are still part of the team.

"I know you have received communication from the Registrar of Political Parties so we are not disputing who the majority is, give us a chance and agree on the way forward to form the House Business Committee so that then we can serve the people of Kenya."

Therefore, they settled on MP James Opiyo Wandayi as the Leader of the Majority, MP Robert Mbui as the Deputy Leader of the Majority, MP Junet Mohammed as the Majority Whip, and Sabina Chege, MP as the Deputy Majority Whip.

Kenya Kwanza allies, on the other hand, recognizes MP Kimani Ichung’wa, as the Leader of the Majority, MP Owen Baya as the Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Silvanus Osoro Onyiego as the Chief Whip, and Marsabit Woman Rep Naomi Jillo Waqo as the Deputy-Chief Whip.

Speaker Wetangula suspended the naming of the Majority and Minority leaders in the House to Thursday.
