Defending champions Kabras Sugar were sent packing early from the Christie 7s after failing to progress past the group stage on Saturday, a stunning blow to their title defense.
The Kakamega-based side started brightly, thumping Uganda’s Ruga Ruga Select 34–5 in their opening game. But momentum slipped away quickly. They fell 17–12 to Daystar Falcons in a surprise upset before suffering a narrow 5–0 defeat to Menengai Oilers in their final pool match.
The back-to-back losses meant Kabras dropped into the Challenge Trophy bracket, leaving their championship hopes in ruins.
In contrast, the day brought joy for other contenders. KCB Rugby looked dominant, sweeping their group with a perfect record.
Kenya Harlequins secured their place with two early wins, while Strathmore Leos recovered from an opening stumble against Zetech Oaks to advance on points difference.
