Deputy president Kithure Kindiki on Chepalungu, Bomet County

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki visited Bomet County on Wednesday as part of a government development tour aimed at overseeing major infrastructure and economic empowerment projects in the region.

Kindiki began the tour by inspecting the Kyogong‑Kapkesosio‑Sigor‑Kaboson‑Chebunyo/Sigor‑Lelaiitich‑Kipreres‑Longisa road, a key 65-kilometer transport artery being upgraded to bitumen standards. The project, valued at 2.1 billion shillings, is expected to improve connectivity and unlock economic opportunities in Chepalungu and Bomet East Constituencies.

The Deputy President was joined by Bomet Governor Prof. Hilary Barchok, Senator Hilary Sigei, Woman Representative Linet Chepkorir, Chepalungu MP Victor Koech Mandazi, MCAs, and local residents during the inspection.

The road upgrade in Bomet County is part of a wider national program, with the government clearing 177 billion shillings in pending contractor payments, enabling the construction of 6,000 kilometers of new tarmac roads across Kenya.

In addition to the road project, Kindiki inspected the Chebunyo Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Market, one of nearly 500 modern market facilities being constructed nationwide.

The 57 million shillings market is approximately 60% complete and aims to provide a dignified trading environment for local vendors, including mama mboga and small-scale traders, away from mud, dirt, and extreme sun.

The facility will feature cold rooms, lactation rooms for mothers with infants, a social hall, a restaurant, and a fully equipped ICT hub to support e-commerce and digital job opportunities for residents.

Kindiki emphasized the importance of modern infrastructure in improving livelihoods and reducing barriers to business for grassroots communities.

He also pledged that the government will ensure timely completion of ongoing projects and monitor contractor performance closely to maintain quality standards.

The Deputy President highlighted the strategic value of roads and markets in stimulating local economies and attracting new investments to Bomet County.

Local leaders and residents expressed appreciation for the national government’s support, noting that the projects will significantly improve access to markets, education, and health services in Chepalungu and surrounding areas.

Kindiki urged county officials and stakeholders to maintain transparency and accountability in project implementation to maximize community benefits.

The visit underscores the government’s broader commitment to economic development, job creation, and digital inclusion, ensuring that local communities directly benefit from national infrastructure and empowerment programs.
