Chelsea Eyes January Move For Nottingham Forest Defender Murillo

Chelsea are reportedly preparing a renewed attempt to sign Brazilian centre-back Murillo from Nottingham Forest when the January transfer window opens, as they look to strengthen a defence that has suffered from injuries and inconsistency this season. According to insiders, Murillo remains a top target for manager Enzo Maresca, who values his ball-playing ability, aerial strength, and composure under pressure.
Murillo’s reputation has soared since joining Forest from Corinthians in 2023, and his performance last season — including among the highest number of clearances in Europe’s top five leagues — has made him one of the most sought-after young defenders. His attributes match Chelsea’s tactical requirement for a centre-back who can build play from deep while remaining defensively resilient.
The challenge for Chelsea, however, lies in the fact that Murillo recently signed a long-term contract with Forest, binding him until 2029, and ensuring the club holds a strong negotiating position. Forest have reportedly valued him at around £70 million, which could complicate any potential deal during the January window.
Despite this, sources close to Chelsea claim the club remains undeterred and may still test Forest’s resolve — especially if their defensive woes continue. With Maresca eager to reinforce the backline, Murillo could emerge as a “leading contender” to join Stamford Bridge, provided Chelsea are willing to meet Forest’s valuation or negotiate terms that satisfy both clubs.
