Kenyan defender Collins Shichenje who has joined Charlton Athletic of England

Charlton Athletic have officially completed the signing of Kenyan international defender Collins Sichenje from Serbian SuperLiga side FK Vojvodina, marking a significant milestone in the Harambee Stars player’s European career.

The English club confirmed the transfer on their official platforms, welcoming the centre-back to south east London ahead of the second half of the season.

Sichenje becomes the latest Kenyan player to secure a move to English football, underlining his steady rise after several seasons plying his trade across Europe.

The 22-year-old defender joins Charlton after a spell in Serbia with FK Vojvodina, where he featured in both domestic league and cup competitions.

Charlton Athletic described Sichenje as a strong, aggressive and front-footed defender, qualities the club believes will add depth and balance to their defensive options.

Although the club did not publicly disclose the financial details, reports indicate the move is a permanent transfer agreed during the January transfer window.

Sichenje is understood to have signed a long-term contract, reflecting Charlton’s confidence in his potential and long-term contribution to the squad.

The Kenyan international has previously played for AFC Leopards in the Kenyan Premier League before moving abroad to Europe at a young age.

His European journey has included stints in Greece, Sweden and Serbia, experiences that have helped shape him into a more complete and disciplined defender.

At international level, Sichenje has represented Kenya in major regional and continental competitions, earning praise for his composure and physical presence at the back.

His move to Charlton Athletic is expected to boost his visibility ahead of future Harambee Stars assignments and key international tournaments.

Charlton manager Nathan Jones has been strengthening his squad as the club pushes its ambitions in the English Football League, with Sichenje seen as a strategic addition.

The defender is expected to integrate quickly into the squad and compete for regular first-team opportunities in the coming weeks.

Sichenje’s transfer has been widely celebrated by Kenyan football fans, with many hailing it as a proud moment for the country’s growing export of talent to top European leagues.
