Chaos and confusion as CHAN Ticketing system fails ahead of Quarter Finals

As of Tuesday, August 19, 2025, fans in Kenya have been elbowed aside in their attempts to buy tickets for the highly anticipated CHAN 2024 quarter-final between Kenya and Madagascar, scheduled for Friday, August 22, at Kasarani Stadium.

When ticket sales officially kicked off—initially set for noon and later delayed to 1:00 pm—the flood of traffic caused the ticketing platform to crash just hours into the sale, leaving genuine fans stranded.

The platform operator, Mookh Africa, blamed the meltdown on automated bots that overwhelmed the system, locking out real buyers, and pledged to resolve the issue quickly.

To add insult to injury, ticket prices were raised: general admission jumped from KSh 200 to KSh 250, while VIP and VVIP tickets remained at KSh 500 and KSh 1,000, respectively.

This price hike comes as CAF continues to enforce stricter conditions—Kenya faces a KSh 6.4 million fine and a reduced stadium capacity of 27,000, following earlier security breaches during their match against Morocco.

Despite being declared “sold out” in record time—some reports say within 15 minutes of the sale launch—the reality is more nuanced. As few as 6,000 tickets may have been sold before the site crashed.

Fans aired their grievances on social media, with complaints ranging from redirected blank screens and missing ticket details to skepticism over the legitimacy of “sold out” notices—especially when failed purchase attempts might be misread as successful buys.

In response, Mookh acknowledged the frustration publicly. “The bots overwhelmed the system, but legitimate fans would get another fair shot—tickets would be back on sale soon.”
