Kenya’s dream run at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 came to a heartbreaking end after losing 4-3 on penalties to Madagascar in the quarter-final clash at Kasarani Stadium on Friday, August 22, 2025.
Anthony Omija gave the home side hope in the 48th minute with a close-range strike, sending fans into jubilation. However, Madagascar equalized in the 69th minute when F. G. Razafimaro calmly converted a penalty to level the game.
Despite late drama in extra time, including a last-gasp chance for Kenya, the match ended 1-1 and proceeded to penalties.
In the shootout, Shami Mohammed, David Sakari, and Samuel Owino scored for Kenya, but misses from Michael Kibwage (saved) and Anthony Omija (off target) proved costly. Madagascar held their nerve with Randriamanampisoa, Randrianirina, Rafanomezantsoa, and Rakotondraibe all converting, sealing a 4-3 victory.
With the win, Madagascar advance to the CHAN semi-finals, while Kenya bow out after a spirited campaign.
