The Netherlands delivered a commanding statement in Group F after sweeping aside Sweden 5–1 in Houston, combining sharp attacking play with sustained control across both halves of the match. The result reinforces their momentum in the group and significantly boosts their goal difference in the qualification race.

The Dutch made a blistering start, with Brian Brobbey striking twice early to put Sweden under immediate pressure. The rapid double left Sweden chasing the game almost from kickoff, as the Netherlands imposed themselves physically and tactically in the opening stages.

Sweden attempted to stabilise after the early setback but struggled to progress through midfield against a well-organised Dutch press. The Netherlands controlled possession and repeatedly advanced into dangerous wide areas, creating a steady stream of chances before the break.

Cody Gakpo then took control of the contest in the second half, scoring twice in quick succession to extend the lead and effectively end any hopes of a Swedish comeback. His movement between the lines and finishing quality proved decisive during a dominant Dutch spell.

Sweden found a brief response through Anthony Elanga, who converted a chance to reduce the deficit, but the momentum remained firmly with the Netherlands.

The Dutch quickly restored their dominance, and late pressure resulted in a fifth goal that underlined the scale of the victory and Sweden’s defensive struggles throughout the match.

The performance highlighted the Netherlands’ attacking depth, with multiple forwards contributing to a fluid and high-intensity display that Sweden were unable to match over 90 minutes.

The win strengthens the Netherlands’ position in Group F and places them in a strong position to advance, while Sweden are left needing improvements in defensive organisation and transition play ahead of their remaining fixtures.
