The Confederation of African Football (CAF) in partnership with sportswear manufacturer PUMA has unveiled the official match ball for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to be held in Morocco. The new ball, named ITRI, which means “star” in the Amazigh language, will make its official debut when the tournament kicks off on December 21, 2025.
The design of ITRI draws deep inspiration from Morocco’s traditional zellij mosaic art — a centuries-old form of geometric tilework renowned for its intricate patterns and vibrant colours. The ball’s design showcases a blend of red and green, representing Morocco’s national colours, while also symbolising passion, unity, and hope across the African continent.
Technically, ITRI is built using PUMA’s advanced “Orbita 6” technology platform, which ensures enhanced flight stability, durability, and precision on the pitch. CAF said the new ball combines cultural heritage with high-performance innovation, offering players a perfect balance between artistry and athletic excellence.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe praised the collaboration, noting that the new match ball reflects Africa’s rich cultural diversity and Morocco’s unique identity as host nation. He added that the use of traditional Moroccan design elements highlights the connection between African football and the continent’s creative traditions.
The unveiling of ITRI marks the start of the final preparations for the 2025 AFCON, which will bring together 24 nations competing for the continent’s most prestigious football title. The ball will be used in all official tournament matches, symbolising both African pride and the unifying spirit of the game.
