Bobi Wine Demands Military Withdrawal From Home Amid Security Standoff

Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu popularly known as Bobi Wine

Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has called for the immediate withdrawal of military personnel deployed at his residence, warning that their continued presence has triggered a humanitarian and security crisis.

Wine said armed officers surrounding and occupying parts of his home have restricted movement and access, placing his family and associates in distressing conditions.

He raised concerns over the safety of civilians inside the residence, citing blocked access to food supplies and essential services as the situation drags on.

The opposition figure described the deployment as unlawful and unnecessary, insisting that it amounts to collective punishment of innocent people living in the compound.

Wine’s demand comes amid heightened political tension following Uganda’s disputed general election, which has seen widespread security operations across the country.

Security agencies have maintained that the deployment around his home is intended to preserve law and order, rejecting claims of house arrest or human rights violations.

However, Wine and his National Unity Platform party argue that the measures are politically motivated and aimed at intimidating opposition leaders and supporters.

Human rights observers have expressed concern over the heavy use of security forces during the post-election period, particularly around opposition strongholds.

The standoff has drawn regional and international attention, adding to scrutiny of Uganda’s political environment and treatment of dissenting voices.

Wine has urged authorities to de-escalate the situation, insisting that the withdrawal of military personnel is necessary to restore safety, dignity and normalcy at his residence.
