Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has been nominated by the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition in the race for the Senate Speaker slated for Thursday.

This comes a day after the former Vice President Kalonzo allegedly withdrew his bids for the two positions he had picked nomination papers for (National Assembly and the Senate).

The above decision had been arrived at after consultations with his party members who argued that it was humiliating for their leader.

Wiper leader will now be facing former Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi who has been nominated by Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Isaac Mwaura.

Kalonzo’s nomination comes after Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan has dropped his bid to support governor Kingi.

Omar in a Facebook post explained that his decision followed consultations with his party leader President -elect William Ruto.

The Azimio One Kenya Coalition further decided to field Kenneth Marende as its candidate for the Speaker of the National Assembly post.

Marende will be competing with Kenya Kwanza’s Moses Wetangula and deputized by Wiper deputy party leader Farah Maalim.

Bungoma Senator-elect on the other hand, will be deputized by Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss.

The outfit also backed up Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo’s bid for the Senate Deputy Speaker post.

The nomination took place during a meeting chaired by the Coalition’s President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Maasai Lodge in Nairobi.

The MPs-elect will now convene on Thursday for the first parliamentary sitting of the 13th parliament at the National Assembly Chambers.
