Three Premier League braces in the past month for Morgan Rogers
Aston Villa claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Manchester United in a Premier League Round 17 clash at Villa Park on Sunday night, strengthening their push up the table. The hosts showed resilience and sharp attacking play to seal all three points in front of a lively home crowd.
Villa took the lead just before the break when Morgan Rogers struck in the 45th minute, finishing off a well-worked move to give Unai Emery’s side a 1-0 advantage at half-time. United struggled to cope with Villa’s intensity in midfield and were second-best for long spells in the opening half.
Manchester United responded immediately after the restart, drawing level in the 45+3 minute through Matheus Cunha. The goal briefly swung momentum in Erik ten Hag’s side’s favour as they enjoyed a spell of possession and pressed higher up the pitch.
However, Villa restored their lead in the 57th minute, with Morgan Rogers once again at the heart of the action as his effort beat the United defence to make it 2-1. United pushed for an equaliser late on, making several substitutions, but Villa remained organised and saw out the contest.
Rogers was named Player of the Match after an outstanding display, earning an 8.8 rating. The result hands Aston Villa a crucial home win, while Manchester United leave Birmingham with more questions after another narrow defeat.
