Arsenal are pushing to secure the signing of Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié, with the Ecuadorian centre-back understood to have told the Bundesliga champions that he is ready to leave. The 23-year-old has made it clear he is prioritising a move to the Emirates over other suitors.
According to reports, negotiations are underway as Arsenal explore ways to complete the deal without triggering Hincapié’s €60 million release clause. The Gunners are instead hoping to strike a lower agreement, though progress is expected to depend on outgoings. Several players including Jakub Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Reiss Nelson have been linked with possible exits to create room in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Arsenal’s London rivals Tottenham Hotspur have also shown interest in Hincapié, reportedly considering a loan-with-obligation-to-buy approach. However, sources indicate that the defender’s preference for Arsenal places them in pole position. The player’s emotional farewell during Leverkusen’s recent match has further fuelled speculation that a transfer is imminent, with Arsenal determined to strengthen their defensive options before the transfer window closes on September 1.
