Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed his anger at what he describes as an unfairly demanding fixture list, openly questioning how often other Premier League clubs face similar pressure. Slot said he is frustrated that Liverpool have already been required to play three matches in seven days on three separate occasions this season, insisting the load has become excessive.
The Dutch tactician did not hide his irritation, stating: “I wonder if there are more teams who had to play 3 games in 7 days this season, and we had to do this 3 times already this season…” He argued that the repeated congestion has compromised player recovery and disrupted Liverpool’s training rhythm.
Slot went further, admitting that he felt “almost happy” about Liverpool’s early exit from the League Cup. According to him, bowing out of the competition eased the relentless cycle of fixtures and allowed the squad to regain some breathing space during a physically demanding campaign.
Liverpool’s recent inconsistency, including dropped points in key Premier League games, has added to the manager’s concerns. Slot linked these struggles to fatigue and rising injury risks, emphasizing that the physical and mental toll on the squad has been significant.
As the season enters a critical stretch, Slot called for more balanced scheduling to ensure fairness across the league. His comments reignited debate over fixture congestion, with the Liverpool boss insisting that player welfare must be prioritized if teams are to compete at their highest level.
