Anthony Muigai Crowned Champion at IPF Golf Tournament in Ruiru

Anthony Muigai emerged as the standout player at the IPF Golf Tournament held on Saturday at Ruiru Sports Club, clinching the Overall Winner’s title with an impressive 42 points. The event attracted over 200 golfers, making it one of the most competitive tournaments in the region.
Playing off a handicap of 21, Muigai outshone a strong pool of amateurs from Nairobi and the surrounding areas. In the men’s category, Gabriel Wabuti also posted 42 points to claim the top spot, with Terra Saidimu settling for second place on 38 points.
The ladies’ competition was equally fierce, with Judy Nyambura (H20) scoring 41 points to secure the Ladies Winner’s trophy. She was closely followed by Veronica Mwaura (H25), who finished runner-up with 40 points.
Other notable highlights included Mary Wanjiku (H19) claiming the Best Gross with 38 points, while junior golfer Mumbi Gatu (H17) impressed with 36 points. Among guest players, Navin Shah (H19) topped the men’s category with 38 points, while Milkah Ikote (H25) bagged the guest ladies’ prize on 37 points.
In the nine-hole competitions, P.M. Mwangi and Michael Waititu both registered 21 points to win the 1st and 2nd Nine Men’s categories, respectively. For the ladies, Shobna Patel and Liz Mwaura matched scores of 21 points each to win the 1st and 2nd Nine. Wanjiku added to her glory with a win in the 9-Hole Ladies category on 28 points.
Division Two saw a remarkable performance from Michael Gachanja (H36), who led with 40 points. Meanwhile, fun challenges spiced up the tournament, with Duncan Kung’u and Janet Mwangi winning the Longest Drive titles, and Stephen Moche alongside Grace Miano securing Nearest to Pin honors.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Ruiru Sports Club Captain Justus Mathenge applauded the event's success, praising the competitiveness and camaraderie displayed.
“This tournament continues to grow in prestige every year. The strong turnout and spirited play we witnessed today are proof that Ruiru is indeed a hub of golfing excellence,” he remarked.
The one-day tournament began at 6:30 am with the morning session and continued into the afternoon before wrapping up with a lively prize-giving ceremony that showcased the sporting and social vibrancy of Ruiru Sports Club.
