As Kenya enters the midpoint of the Kenya Kwanza government’s term, UDA officials report progress on key manifesto commitments aimed at transforming the country’s economy and social services. The party’s 2022 manifesto focused on agriculture, job creation, affordable credit, universal healthcare, housing, infrastructure, and digital economy development.

In agriculture, government programmes have increased staple crop production, notably maize, and reduced fertiliser costs through subsidies, improving household food security. Expansion of micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) financing has enhanced access to credit, though some regulatory challenges remain.

Job creation initiatives have delivered gains in digital work platforms, labour export programmes, and construction-linked employment, contributing to the administration’s broader economic agenda.

Affordable housing remains a priority, with thousands of units under construction or completed, while healthcare reforms aim to expand universal coverage through a new social health insurance framework and strengthened primary care services.

Infrastructure development has progressed in road construction, transport networks, and fibre-optic connectivity, supporting both economic activity and digital inclusion.

Government sources highlight stabilised economic indicators, including inflation control and currency stability, which have provided relief to households despite external pressures.

Independent evaluations, however, note that only a portion of manifesto pledges have been fully achieved, with many initiatives ongoing and some delayed. Critics point to slower-than-expected job creation and gaps in wage growth in certain sectors.

Education-related commitments, such as teacher recruitment and classroom construction, show measurable progress but face challenges, particularly in technical and vocational training infrastructure.

Despite these hurdles, UDA leadership has emphasised continued commitment to manifesto objectives, reaffirming partnerships with other political actors to advance national development.

The administration’s mid-term record reflects a combination of tangible achievements in agriculture, healthcare, and housing, alongside areas needing intensified implementation and monitoring.

Officials say ongoing engagement with county governments, the private sector, and civil society is central to sustaining progress on social and economic initiatives.

Digital economy growth has been supported through public and private investment in connectivity, innovation hubs, and ICT training programmes, aiming to enhance employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The government has rolled out targeted financial support to households and businesses to mitigate cost-of-living pressures, including subsidies and loan programmes for SMEs and farmers.

Healthcare outreach programmes have expanded coverage in underserved regions, aiming to strengthen community-level services and preventative care.

As Kenya approaches the second half of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s term, both government and independent assessments underline the importance of accelerating delivery on remaining manifesto pledges to meet citizens’ expectations.
