Paris Saint Germain star Achraf Hakimi has been named the 2025 CAF Player of the Year, also known as the African Ballon d’Or, at the annual CAF Awards held in Rabat. The Moroccan defender beat Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah and Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen to claim the prestigious accolade.
Hakimi’s achievement marks a historic moment, as he becomes the first defender in 52 years to win the award. He is also the first Moroccan to receive the honor since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.
The award caps a remarkable year for Hakimi, who played a pivotal role in PSG’s domestic and continental success. The 2025 season saw him lift the Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and UEFA Super Cup with the French club.
