Usain Bolt Tips Jefferson-Wooden as an Athlete to Watch in Tokyo Japan

Sprinting legend Usain Bolt has identified American sprinter Melissa Jefferson-Wooden as the athlete to watch at the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo. The Jamaican icon has warned rivals including Julien Alfred, Dina Asher-Smith, and Sha’Carri Richardson to be cautious of the rising star who has enjoyed a remarkable season.
Jefferson-Wooden arrives at the championships unbeaten in the 100m this year, carrying the world’s fastest time of 10.65 seconds, set at the US Championships. Her consistency and explosive speed have positioned her as one of the leading favourites, with Bolt acknowledging that her form will be difficult to overlook heading into the biggest stage.
The 11-time world champion praised Jefferson-Wooden’s ability to perform under pressure but cautioned that anything can happen on the day when competing at major championships. Bolt noted that championship races bring unique challenges where nerves, execution, and mental strength often prove decisive in crowning winners.
Beyond his assessment of the women’s sprint field, Bolt also revealed a shift in his perspective on coaching. He explained that fatherhood has taught him patience and provided new motivation, opening the door to the possibility of pursuing coaching roles in the future as he continues to give back to the sport.
