Truphena Muthoni,Environmentalist

Truphena Muthoni, a 22-year-old Kenyan environmentalist and wildlife activist, has successfully set a monumental new Guinness World Record for the longest time spent continuously hugging a tree. Muthoni achieved the remarkable feat by embracing a tree for 72 consecutive hours. The challenge began on December 8, marking a powerful, silent protest against the escalating crisis of deforestation. Truphena Muthoni's three-day marathon was an immense test of physical and mental fortitude. She completed the record-breaking attempt without any sustenance or rest, enduring three consecutive days without eating or sleeping. This successful attempt didn't just set a new global benchmark; it also shattered Muthoni's own previous world record of 48 hours, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to her cause. Muthoni strategically chose the seemingly simple act of tree-hugging as her medium of protest. She views it as a neutral and therapeutic way to connect with people's consciences about the vital importance of trees and the environment. In her own words, this silent protest is designed to bypass societal differences and conflict: "The importance of this peaceful protest is that it bypasses all differences, because during the other protests we hear stories of goons, but this one bypasses all stories and triggers humanity," she stated. The 72-hour tree-hugging marathon drew significant nationwide attention, shining a spotlight on both the young environmentalist and the critical issue of deforestation. The event captured the interest of both national and local leaders, illustrating the power of her message. Crucially, Truphena received substantial support from Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga. The Governor was a key pillar of support, motivating the 22-year-old to push beyond her limits and break the previous record. Governor Kahiga personally flagged off the three-day challenge, lending official gravity and encouragement to the environmentalist's extraordinary endeavor.
