Tottenham Hotspur have reached a full agreement to sign Argentine defender Marcos Senesi on a free transfer ahead of the 2026/27 season, with the deal now entering its final stages. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move with his trademark “Here we go” announcement, stating that Spurs had finalized all major terms for the experienced centre-back to join the club this summer.
Senesi is expected to sign a four-year contract with Tottenham after verbal agreements between both parties were reached months ago. Reports indicate discussions over the transfer had been progressing since March, with Spurs accelerating negotiations once plans for their summer rebuild were finalized following the end of the Premier League season.
The 29-year-old will arrive in North London as a free agent after the expiry of his contract with Bournemouth, where he developed into one of the club’s most important defensive figures. During his time at the South Coast club, Senesi earned praise for his leadership, physical defending, composure on the ball and consistency against top Premier League opposition.
Sources close to the negotiations indicate Tottenham faced competition from several major European clubs interested in signing the Argentine international. Clubs from England, Italy and Germany were monitoring his situation, but Spurs ultimately convinced the defender with their long-term project and promises of a key role within the squad.
The move is seen as part of Tottenham’s wider efforts to strengthen their defence and add experienced players to the squad ahead of the new campaign. The club has been heavily linked with defensive reinforcements following an inconsistent season that exposed weaknesses at the back, particularly in high-pressure matches against top opposition.
New Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi is believed to have personally approved the signing as he continues shaping the squad in line with his tactical approach. De Zerbi reportedly values Senesi’s ability to play out from the back, remain calm under pressure and operate comfortably in an aggressive defensive system.
Senesi previously built his reputation in Europe during his successful spell at Dutch giants Feyenoord before earning a move to Bournemouth in 2022. His performances in both the Eredivisie and the Premier League established him as one of the more reliable left-footed central defenders available on the market.
The defender is expected to become Tottenham’s second major free-agent acquisition of the summer transfer window following reports that Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson is also close to joining the North London club. Spurs are aiming to add experienced leaders capable of immediately improving the squad both on and off the pitch.
Tottenham officials are now believed to be completing the remaining paperwork and formalities before the transfer is officially announced. Medical examinations and final contract documentation are expected to take place soon before Senesi is unveiled as a Tottenham player.
The signing signals Tottenham’s intention to rebuild aggressively ahead of the new season as the club looks to return to consistent competitiveness in domestic and European football. Supporters are expected to welcome the arrival of Senesi, whose Premier League experience and defensive qualities are viewed as important additions to the squad.
