Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan has issued a stern warning to caregivers regarding the misappropriation of funds designated for beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii Social Protection Programme.

During his address at Rawinji Chief’s Camp in Rachuonyo South Sub-county, where he oversaw the registration of beneficiaries for the Cash Transfer Programme, Mr. Lilan emphasized the importance of honesty among those responsible for managing funds on behalf of vulnerable individuals.

He expressed concern over reports of fraudulent activities among some caregivers who had diverted funds for their personal gain. He stated, “The government will take decisive action against any caregiver found misusing funds intended for those in need.”

The program entails providing Sh 2000 per month to each household with orphans and vulnerable children, as well as elderly individuals aged 70 years and above and those with severe disabilities.

Moses also highlighted that some dishonest caregivers with orphaned children neglect to support the children as required by the program, despite withdrawing funds earmarked for their care.

He urged caregivers to uphold integrity, emphasizing that beneficiaries of the Cash Transfer Programme should receive the full benefits they are entitled to. He stated that the government would closely monitor the utilization of the funds, stressing that it is a government program, and every eligible individual must receive their entitled benefits.
