South Africa Shut Out Kenya to Lift 12th Africa Women’s 7s Title

South Africa reaffirmed their dominance in African women’s rugby after overpowering the Kenya Lionesses 22–0 to secure their 12th Africa Women’s 7s title at the RFUEA Grounds on Sunday evening.
The final, a familiar showdown repeated from 2023 and 2024, once again went the way of the Blitzboks, who have now won five consecutive championships, with eight of those title victories coming at the expense of Kenya.
Shiniqwa Lamprecht opened South Africa’s account midway through the first half, with captain Nadine Roos converting to give the visitors a 7–0 halftime lead.
The defending champions returned even sharper in the second half, striking early before Patience Mokone crossed the try line moments later to extend the gap.
Kenya struggled throughout, spending long spells pinned inside their own 22. Their first meaningful attack after the break was quickly shut down by South Africa’s unbreakable defensive structure.
Roos sealed the win with the team’s fifth try, putting the match beyond reach.
For South Africa, the victory meant more than continental bragging rights. The win confirms their promotion opportunity into the HSBC Sevens Series third division, the official Challenger pathway leading to the global second tier.
The Kenya Lionesses, already competing in the second division, were instead targeting home glory — a dream once again stalled by the relentless Blitzboks.
The defeat marks Kenya’s third straight loss in the final, prolonging their wait to be crowned African champions.
