Sign a Contract First Before Engaging in Political Deals
The Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) on 8th November 2021 advised artists to be careful before engaging in political deals during the campaign season in readiness for the 2022 general elections.
In a press statement, the KECOBO advised that musicians should negotiate terms of their services with lawyers in all cases to ensure that they have written contracts. Further, the artists should insist on cash payment before any delivery or a sizeable deposit before releasing any production project. Also, in the case of live performances, the artist should ensure they have been fully paid, to avoid the aftermath experienced where an artist can not sue a politician as there is no evidence of a contract.
