Embattled Edwin Sifuna has criticised plans to present a report on the implementation of a 10-point political agreement between Orange Democratic Movement and United Democratic Alliance in a closed-door meeting instead of making it public.
The Nairobi senator argued that Kenyans deserve full transparency on the progress of the political pact, saying the outcome of the agreement affects the country and should therefore not be handled privately among a few leaders.
The report concerns a memorandum of understanding signed in 2025 between President William Samoei Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga aimed at easing political tensions and addressing several national issues.
The agreement outlined a 10-point reform agenda touching on governance, electoral reforms, economic concerns and measures meant to promote national dialogue after a period of political contestation.
A committee led by Agnes Zani was tasked with monitoring the implementation of the agreement and preparing a progress report on how far the commitments made by the two political formations have been achieved.
Sifuna has insisted that the findings should be released publicly so that citizens can assess whether the pledges made under the pact have been honoured.
According to the senator, presenting the report in a closed meeting would undermine accountability and raise questions about the intentions behind the political arrangement.
The debate comes amid growing internal discussions within ODM over its cooperation framework with UDA, with some leaders backing the engagement while others remain sceptical about the long-term political implications.
