Robert Sánchez was reportedly disappointed after being left out of the starting lineup for Chelsea F.C. in their Premier League clash against Aston Villa F.C.. The Spanish goalkeeper had expected to feature but was instead omitted from the starting eleven.

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior acknowledged that the goalkeeper was frustrated by the decision. The manager said the reaction was understandable, emphasizing that professional players naturally want to be involved in major matches.

Sánchez had faced criticism following a difficult performance in Chelsea’s previous Premier League defeat against Arsenal F.C.. The display increased scrutiny around his position and prompted the coaching staff to consider changes ahead of the Villa fixture.

Rosenior instead handed the starting role to Filip Jørgensen, giving the young goalkeeper an opportunity to prove himself between the posts. The decision reflected what the manager described as a competitive approach to squad selection.

The Chelsea boss insisted the move should not be interpreted as a permanent demotion for Sánchez. He explained that the club currently does not operate with a fixed first-choice goalkeeper.

Rosenior said selections will instead be determined by tactical considerations and the demands of each opponent. According to the coach, the goalkeeping position will rotate depending on what best suits the team for a particular match.

Despite his disappointment, Sánchez has reportedly remained professional in training and supportive of his teammates. The manager praised the goalkeeper’s attitude and commitment to the squad following the decision.

Chelsea went on to secure a convincing victory away to Aston Villa, with Jørgensen delivering a composed performance in goal. The situation now leaves an open competition for the starting position as Chelsea continue their Premier League campaign.
