Ruto Urges Kenyans to Judge Leaders by Delivery, Not Slogans

Today, State House Nairobi, H.Eresident William Samoei Ruto addressed ambassadors, high commissioners and heads of international institutions resident in Kenya in the New Year Diplomatic Briefing.
President William Samoei Ruto delivered a forceful address this week defending his government’s record as the 2027 general election campaign intensifies, insisting that Kenyans must evaluate leaders on concrete achievements rather than slogans or rhetoric.
In remarks delivered on February 8 and reiterated in multiple public appearances this week, Ruto dismissed efforts by opposition figures to revive the Azimio la Umoja coalition, saying its attempt to reorganise will not defeat his Kenya Kwanza movement at the ballot box.
The President highlighted that he was able to defeat the Azimio coalition in the 2022 general election despite its strong political backing at the time, and he expressed confidence that his administration’s track record of delivery will secure victory again in 2027.
Ruto told residents in Pipeline Stage, Embakasi South, that Kenya’s electorate will judge leaders on tangible outcomes such as affordable housing, infrastructure development, food security and access to clean water, rather than negative political campaigns.
He said that leadership is not a “beauty contest” and that the public is more concerned with practical solutions to everyday challenges, reinforcing his call for voters to focus on performance over personality.
The President reiterated his long‑standing argument that opposition chants like “Ruto must go” carry no policy substance and will not resonate with citizens who are keen to see results and delivery of services.
In defending his economic record, Ruto has repeatedly pointed to evidence of stabilisation and progress including stronger macroeconomic indicators and tangible growth in development sectors, a message he underscored in his last State of the Nation address.
His administration has portrayed the economy as being on the right track, with improved investor confidence, stronger currency performance, and reduced inflation — points he uses to illustrate that critics mischaracterise Kenya’s economic reality.
On national policy, Ruto has called for issue‑based politics that prioritize solutions on jobs creation, cost of living, and economic empowerment, urging political rivals to present detailed agendas rather than resorting to negative messaging.
He also reaffirmed his broader vision of transforming Kenya into a first‑world economy, arguing that ambition and disciplined implementation of major national plans are essential to achieving long‑term development goals.
In various speeches and campaign stops, Ruto has defended key pillars of his governance including education reforms, infrastructure expansion, and economic inclusion programmes as evidence of his administration’s commitments to fulfilling electoral promises.
The President’s defence of his record comes amid ongoing political tension with opposition leaders who argue that the government has fallen short in addressing urgent socioeconomic challenges facing ordinary Kenyans.
Ruto has consistently emphasised that metric‑based evaluation — such as progress in housing projects, road construction, and national service delivery — should form the basis of public judgment at the polls.
He has also criticised the opposition for focusing on tribalism and division, saying such approaches do not provide coherent solutions to the nation’s development needs.
In his public engagements this week, Ruto reiterated confidence in his government’s direction and urged voters not to be swayed by political noise, but to look at measurable advancements in the lives of citizens.
Observers say the President’s emphasis on track record and delivery reflects his broader electoral strategy as Kenya heads into a closely watched and competitive general election cycle.
