Today, President William Ruto stepped out into the sprawling urban landscape of Nairobi with a clear message of progress and partnership. His first stop was the Kabete Social Protection Affordable Housing Project, where rows of half-finished residential blocks stood under the equatorial sun, evidence of an ambitious housing initiative aimed at expanding affordable homes for city residents.

At the Kabete site, Ruto walked beside construction materials and unfinished walls, taking in the scale of the project that includes multiple residential blocks, a clubhouse, and community facilities. The presence of workers and supervisors underscored the thousands of jobs such developments have created for local youth.

Flanked by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and several senior officials, Ruto spoke directly to gathering journalists and onlookers, framing the housing work as part of a joint commitment between national and county governments to modernize the capital.

He then moved the day’s programme into the heart of Kangemi, where residents and pupils from nearby schools gathered in expectant clusters near the entrance of Kangemi Primary School. The air was charged with anticipation as local leaders awaited the presidential visit.

Within the school grounds, Ruto presided over the handover of 16 newly constructed classrooms, each bright and ready for learners. Teachers and parents observed quietly, their expressions reflecting the significance they attach to improved learning spaces in an area where educational infrastructure has long been stretched.

In addressing the community, the President reiterated a central theme: that these buildings are not just bricks and mortar but symbols of measurable outcomes from the cooperation pact between national and county authorities. He emphasised that visible improvements matter more than speeches, insisting that results define leadership.

Standing before residents near the newly commissioned classrooms and the adjacent Kangemi Overpass, Ruto restated his pledge that the houses under construction would not be financed through new government borrowing, affirming his long-stated commitment to fiscal prudence.

He described the broader development partnership — backed by a significant cooperation agreement — as vital to tackling Nairobi’s long-standing challenges, including poor roads, inadequate lighting, and weak service delivery in key sectors.

Throughout his remarks, the narrative was consistent: development must be tangible and inclusive, elevating Nairobi not just in infrastructure but in quality of life for its residents. He called on both city and national leaders to maintain the momentum of delivery so that residents can feel improvements in everyday services.

Governor Sakaja joined him during portions of the visit, welcoming the cooperation pact and framing it as a transformative investment that recognises Nairobi’s unique role as Kenya’s capital and economic hub. Their joint presence underscored a rare public show of alignment between county and national leadership on urban development.

By late afternoon, the tour had moved beyond classrooms and housing, with the presidential entourage engaging more local residents around busy streets and overpasses, reiterating commitments to sustained joint efforts and promising further work that aims to lift living standards across Westlands and the broader city of Nairobi.
