President William Samoei Ruto storms Kisumu promises development, castigates opposition
President William Samoei Ruto on Friday took his development message to Kisumu, assuring residents that his administration is committed to inclusive growth that reaches every household and leaves no region behind. The Head of State said the voices of the people remain central to shaping government priorities and national progress.
Addressing residents in Kondele and Kisumu City, President Ruto said Kenyans want opportunity, prosperity and a government that works for all, regardless of region or political affiliation. He emphasised that unity and shared purpose are essential to delivering meaningful development outcomes across the country.
Ruto’s Kisumu engagements formed part of a broader tour of Nyanza, during which he called for political cooperation and dialogue aimed at strengthening national cohesion. He urged leaders to place development above partisan interests as the country prepares for the next general election cycle.
Earlier in the day, the President graced the 5th graduation ceremony of Uzima University in Kisumu County, where he challenged graduates to anchor their success on hard work, faith and resilience. He described education as a key pillar in Kenya’s long-term social and economic transformation.
While addressing the graduands, Ruto defended the government’s needs-based university funding model, saying it ensures fairness and expands access to higher education for students from diverse backgrounds. He urged universities to align training with national development needs.
The President also highlighted ongoing government investments in energy infrastructure, noting that improved power reliability in Nyanza and Western Kenya is expected to support industry, small businesses and job creation.
Local leaders and residents welcomed the President’s visit, saying sustained engagement by the national government signals a renewed focus on addressing long-standing development gaps in the lakeside region. They expressed optimism that continued collaboration would translate into tangible benefits for communities.
Ruto reiterated that his administration’s vision is a united and inclusive nation, where every community has a voice and every citizen has a stake in the country’s shared destiny. He said development must be equitable to secure lasting national stability.
The Kisumu tour underscored President Ruto’s broader governance approach—combining grassroots engagement, education, infrastructure investment and political outreach—as he seeks to consolidate support for his development agenda across all regions of Kenya.
