Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), today confirmed plans to hold a public rally in Kikuyu Constituency on Saturday, 11 April 2026, at 1:00 PM. The announcement came after a morning meeting with local DCP leaders, who invited him to engage with residents and party supporters ahead of the upcoming political activities in the region. The event is expected to draw large crowds and several prominent political figures from the opposition.
Speaking to supporters, Gachagua addressed growing concerns over political intimidation in the area, saying, “I have been advised not to be intimidated by Kimani Ichung’wa, who has publicly threatened to unleash violence against leaders and members of the public if the DCP plans a meeting in the constituency.” He urged citizens to remain calm, assured of their constitutional rights, and called for peaceful participation in the rally.
The former Deputy President emphasized that Kikuyu, like all other regions of Kenya, is governed by law, adding, “Kikuyu constituency is part of the Republic of Kenya and, like all other regions, is governed by the rule of law and the Constitution, which guarantees the right to peaceful assembly and association.” He underscored the importance of exercising democratic freedoms without fear or intimidation, reiterating that public gatherings are a lawful right protected under the Constitution.
Gachagua confirmed that principals of the United Alternative Government would also be invited to participate in the rally. This inclusion, he explained, reflects the DCP’s strategy of building coalitions and strengthening opposition engagement nationwide. The event, he noted, would also serve as an opportunity to mobilize political support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The DCP leader assured the public that safety measures would be taken seriously during the rally. “The leaders have assured me they will take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the meeting and all attendees, especially against any goons being mobilized by the MP, who has compromised police officers and is exercising undue influence,” he said. Gachagua called on security agencies to uphold their duties impartially to guarantee a peaceful event for all participants.
In addition to the Kikuyu rally, Gachagua formally unveiled the DCP candidate for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election, Vincent Kibet Rotich, scheduled for 14 May 2026. Addressing residents of Narok County, he highlighted the significance of community involvement in selecting leaders and emphasized the party’s commitment to transparency and fair competition.
“I wholeheartedly accept your candidate, an inspiring, young, and ambitious leader dedicated to serving the people — Hon. Vincent Kibet Rotich — as the DCP PARTY flag bearer,” Gachagua said. He described Rotich as a promising leader capable of bringing meaningful change to Emurua Dikirr and praised the community for presenting him as their preferred choice.
Gachagua encouraged voters to embrace the democratic process, stating, “You hold a historic and powerful opportunity in your hands. It is time to take action and make your voice heard.” He urged residents to actively participate in the campaign, reject bribery, and prioritize candidates who demonstrate commitment and integrity.
He further reaffirmed his party’s broader political mission, saying, “Our journey to liberate this country remains unstoppable and will not be derailed by threats of violence, not just in Kikuyu constituency but across the entire nation.” His remarks indicate a continued focus on national opposition mobilization, with an emphasis on resisting attempts to suppress political activities through intimidation.
Later in the day, Gachagua visited Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, to condole with the family of the late MP David Kiaraho. The former Deputy President joined local residents in expressing sympathy for the loss and recognized the late MP’s contributions to parliamentary service and community leadership.
“Till his demise, Hon. Kiaraho was a peaceful and amiable man. I had the privilege to serve with Hon. Kiaraho in the 11th parliament and we served in the same departmental committee,” Gachagua said. He highlighted the collaborative work they shared in parliament and reflected on Kiaraho’s commitment to public service.
He offered prayers for the bereaved family, stating, “I pray for peace and strength on his family at this difficult moment. May the Almighty God rest the Soul of Hon. Kiaraho in eternal peace and perpetual light shine upon him forever.” His presence was welcomed by residents as a sign of solidarity during the mourning period.
Political analysts note that Gachagua’s active engagements today, including both rallies and condolences, underscore his growing political influence and visibility as a national opposition figure. His activities in Kikuyu and Emurua Dikirr are being closely observed as tests of his ability to mobilize support ahead of the 2027 elections.
Observers also highlight that the DCP leader’s vocal stance on political intimidation, constitutional rights, and candidate endorsement positions him as a prominent figure challenging the ruling party’s dominance in key regions. Analysts suggest that his actions today may set the tone for upcoming by-elections in Central Kenya and other strategic constituencies.
Gachagua’s engagements today reflect a strategy of combining grassroots mobilization, public messaging, and community solidarity. With multiple high-profile events in a single day, including the unveiling of a parliamentary candidate and public condolences for a late MP, Gachagua is signaling an active, assertive role in national politics in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
