Portugal opened their World Cup qualifying campaign with a resounding 5–0 win over Armenia on Saturday evening. João Félix gave the visitors an early lead in the 10th minute before Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice in the 16th and 21st minutes to tighten their control. João Cancelo then added a third goal before halftime, leaving the hosts with little chance of recovery.
Portugal’s dominance continued into the second half as Ronaldo netted again in the 58th minute to extend the tally. Félix completed his brace shortly after, sealing a convincing performance for Roberto Martínez’s side. Armenia struggled throughout, unable to contain Portugal’s attacking flair despite several substitutions.
João Cancelo was outstanding on the night, contributing both a goal and an assist while also excelling defensively. His display earned him the Player of the Match award, underlining his growing influence in the national team setup. Alongside Ronaldo and Félix, Cancelo ensured Portugal’s frontline remained sharp and clinical.
The win gives Portugal a perfect start to their Group F campaign, securing three points and a healthy goal difference. With their star players firing on all cylinders, they have sent a strong message to their rivals. For Armenia, the result was a harsh reminder of the gap in quality, as they now face an uphill task to remain competitive in the qualifiers.
