Pep Guardiola has been handed a two‑game touchline ban after receiving his sixth yellow card of the season during Manchester City’s 3–1 FA Cup win over Newcastle United.
The booking came after Guardiola confronted the fourth official on the touchline at St James’ Park following a foul on Jeremy Doku by Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier, leading the referee to caution him.
Under new disciplinary rules, managers are suspended after accumulating set numbers of yellow cards, with six cards triggering a two‑match touchline ban. Guardiola will miss Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League match against West Ham United and their FA Cup quarter-final.
The ban does not apply to the Carabao Cup final, allowing Guardiola to be on the touchline for City’s final against Arsenal at Wembley on March 22.
This suspension is another instance this season where Guardiola has faced disciplinary action for dissent, having previously served bans after earlier bookings.
City officials say coaching staff will take charge on the touchline during his absence, while Guardiola continues to prepare the team off the field.
Guardiola has publicly expressed frustration over the ban, joking that he might “go on holiday” during the suspension, acknowledging the disciplinary record he has accrued.
The ban applies only to domestic league and FA Cup matches and does not extend to European competition or domestic cup finals.
