Pep Guardiola Defends Man City Amid Arsenal Spending Debate

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has weighed in on discussions surrounding Arsenal’s heavy transfer spending, pointing out that investment has become a necessity for all top clubs competing at the highest level.
“Only I want to say to my friend, Mikel Arteta, if he wins the [Premier League] title it will JUST be because of spending, not because he worked a lot,” Guardiola remarked, drawing parallels with other big sides. “Like Liverpool! If Arne [Slot] wins [the title] again, it will be because he spent a lot of money, right? Because it’s not just Man City that that's happened right? So, all of them [do it].”
The City boss further defended clubs’ rights to strengthen their squads in pursuit of success, while also referencing the scrutiny City has faced over their finances. “Listen, for many, many years, every club can do whatever they want! I know how we've been treated is completely different, but what they want to spend is because they want it, and it’s fine! Then the only thing I can say is they've been wise, spent what they believe they can do, to compete against the best in the Premier League, in Europe...”
