President William Samoei Ruto today attended the funeral service of the late Member of Parliament, David Kiaraho, in Ol Kalou, where he lauded the deceased’s contributions to local development and promised to continue his work.
“First of all, I thank God for giving us the opportunity to be here today in Ol Kalou to pay our respects to our dear brother and leader, Honorable David Kiaraho,” President Ruto said as he addressed the mourners.
He recalled his early encounters with the late MP, noting the dedication he exhibited since being elected. “I met David Kiaraho when he was first elected as the Member of Parliament for this constituency, and I witnessed firsthand his commitment and hard work,” Ruto said.
The President emphasized Kiaraho’s focus on community development, saying, “Every time he invited me here to Ol Kalou, it was always to discuss the development of the people of Ol Kalou and Nyandarua.”
Even amid the somber occasion, Ruto expressed gratitude for being able to honor Kiaraho’s legacy. “Today, I am happy to be here, even though it is a moment of sadness, to honor him for his contributions to Ol Kalou and to our nation, Kenya,” he said.
Turning to the late leader’s family, Ruto spoke directly to Kiaraho’s wife and children. “To his family—the wife and the children—you had an outstanding father and husband,” he said.
He described Kiaraho as a leader whose service transcended political disputes. “Today, we celebrate the life and times of this great leader in a very special way and thank God for his life and the contributions he made to the development of our nation and particularly in service to the people of Ol Kalou,” Ruto said.
The President highlighted the loyalty of Ol Kalou residents to Kiaraho. “People of Ol Kalou know how fortunate you were to have such a leader. Even in 2022, when UDA was competing, he won because of the work he had done for the people of Ol Kalou,” he stated.
Ruto emphasized the principle by which leadership should be judged. “He reminded everyone that leadership is measured by service, not by disputes, tears, or arrogance. This is why we celebrate him today,” he said.
The President praised Kiaraho’s tangible achievements, noting how they earned the people’s support. “The people stood with Kiaraho because of his performance and what he did for the people of Ol Kalou, and every leader will be judged in the same way,” Ruto said.
He reflected on his working relationship with the late MP during his tenure as Deputy President under President Uhuru Kenyatta. “I worked with our brother David Kiaraho when I was Deputy President under President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Ruto recalled.
Ruto shared memories of infrastructure projects championed by Kiaraho. “I remember standing here at the junction where the road from KTEN to Ndemi was not yet paved. Kiaraho, in faith, said that one day this road would be tarmacked—and he never stopped pushing for it,” he said.
The President announced the progress made on key roads in the county. “We started constructing that road through Ndemi, passing Wanjohi, and now we have reached Ndonyjeru,” he said.
Ruto reassured residents that Kiaraho’s development agenda would continue. “I want to assure people here and in other areas that this road and all other projects he championed will be completed,” he said.
He pledged personal oversight to ensure the work is finished. “Even though Kiaraho has passed on, I will ensure the work continues and is finished. Every road and project I mentioned will be completed—I know this and will personally follow through,” the President said.
Ruto drew a distinction between promises and action. “It is not about what other leaders have said—they may have made promises—but I know what I will do, and I will ensure these roads are completed by next year,” he added.
He called on all leaders to be accountable to their constituents. “Each leader must be accountable for the promises they make,” he said.
The President reiterated his commitment to honoring Kiaraho’s legacy. “I am committed to seeing these projects through to honor Kiaraho’s legacy and the service he provided to the people of Ol Kalou,” Ruto said.
In closing, Ruto encouraged continued faith in public service. “As we remember David Kiaraho today, let his dedication inspire all of us to serve our communities with honesty, diligence, and humility,” he said.
The funeral brought together local leaders, residents, and national officials, all paying tribute to the life of a man remembered for his commitment to development and the people of Ol Kalou.
