ODPP To Act Tough On Hate Mongers
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions once again has restated its commitment to act tough on politicians who use speech to perpetuate hate and divisions during and after the electioneering period.
Director of Public prosecutions, Noordin Haji says that hate speech and the electoral process are key strategic issues that must be managed for a calm nation.
The ODPP crew has urged Kenyans to help them identify culprits of hate speech in a bid to ensure they are investigated and brought to book.
The body cited that the coming August general election is a symbol of the nation's peace and stability.
The Haji-led team maintains that to achieve their agenda of curbing hate speech, the agency needs to work closely with citizens.
Earlier, during a security preparation meeting, the agency revealed that it had set up justice and hate speech division to deal with cases of violence and incitement ahead of the August polls.
DPP Haji told the meeting that he had seconded some 200 special prosecutors to man such cases and ensure expeditious prosecutions.
Haji says his office will take electoral justice seriously and they are keen on ensuring offenders are dealt with.
