The Orange Democratic Movement has dismissed claims that members risk expulsion for holding views that differ from the party’s current political position, amid growing public debate over its internal cohesion.
ODM party leader Oburu Odinga said the party has no intention of taking disciplinary action against members solely on the basis of dissenting opinions, stressing that internal debate remains part of its democratic culture.
He explained that ODM’s leadership is focused on maintaining unity and inclusivity, even as members express differing perspectives on the party’s direction and engagement in national politics.
Oburu noted that party members are free to hold and express their views, adding that any decision to leave the party would be a personal choice rather than the result of coercion or punitive measures.
The remarks come against the backdrop of heightened political discussions within ODM, particularly over its role in the broad-based government and its long-term strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Senior party figures have similarly played down reports of looming expulsions, arguing that divergent opinions should not be confused with disloyalty or indiscipline.
ODM officials say the priority remains strengthening the party’s structures and message while allowing space for internal dialogue as it navigates a complex and evolving political landscape.
