Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Oginga has affirmed that the party will not expel any members amid ongoing internal tensions.
Speaking during a party rally in Siaya County, Oburu emphasised that disagreements within ODM should be addressed through dialogue and democratic processes rather than punitive measures.
He stated that any member who feels uncomfortable within the party has the option to leave voluntarily, underlining the leadership’s commitment to an inclusive approach.
The remarks come against a backdrop of factional disputes following leadership changes and debates over ODM’s strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oburu highlighted that the party’s focus is currently on policy formulation, development programmes, and arrangements on internal power-sharing, rather than internal purges.
He reiterated that ODM will maintain adherence to established party structures and democratic principles in handling disagreements and conflicts among members.
The ODM leader noted that the party aims to strengthen unity and cohesion, stressing that forced expulsions would only deepen divisions and harm the party’s public image.
Discussions within the party have included concerns over its relationship with other political formations, including its exit from the Azimio la Umoja coalition earlier in 2026.
Oburu’s statement signals the leadership’s intention to manage internal divisions without escalating conflict, offering a clear message that inclusivity will guide the party’s direction.
The announcement is seen as an effort to reassure party members and supporters that ODM remains committed to open participation and democratic governance, even amid disagreements.
