Arsenal left it late to claim a 2-1 victory over Newcastle in a dramatic Premier League clash at St James’ Park on Sunday evening. The Gunners had to come from behind after falling behind in the first half but showed resilience to snatch all three points.
Nick Woltemade opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 34th minute, finishing off Sandro Tonali’s pass to give the hosts the lead. The Magpies were solid defensively and went into the break 1-0 up, frustrating Arsenal’s attacking efforts throughout the first half.
The visitors, however, pushed harder after the interval and finally found a way through when Mikel Merino struck in the 84th minute to level the game. That goal gave Arsenal renewed belief as they pressed for a winner in the closing stages.
Their persistence paid off deep into stoppage time as Gabriel Magalhães scored the decisive goal in the 90+6th minute. The Brazilian defender was later named Player of the Match as Arsenal celebrated a hard-fought win that keeps their momentum alive in the league.
