The Medical Advisory Committee of Nairobi Hospital’s Admitting Staff Association (ASA) has distanced itself from a group of doctors who met President William Ruto, calling the engagement informal and outside established internal procedures.
The committee stressed that the hospital operates through defined governance channels, where concerns are first discussed at divisional or specialty levels before escalation to the central advisory committee for external engagement.
The five admitting staff members who met the President bypassed these formal channels, engaging the Head of State directly without raising issues through the board or prescribed internal forums, the committee said.
The ASA committee added that the information presented during the meeting did not accurately reflect the hospital’s overall situation and cannot be regarded as endorsed by the association.
The move highlights ongoing tensions within Nairobi Hospital leadership amid disputes over management and operational challenges.
The meeting with President Ruto had seen senior doctors raise concerns about governance and call for intervention in hospital leadership disputes.
State House confirmed receiving representations from various stakeholders, framing the President’s role as responding to complaints about management and financial issues affecting the hospital’s stability.
The ASA committee’s statement underscores a divide between doctors who sought direct engagement with the presidency and internal leadership insisting on adhering to established channels.
The disagreement reflects deeper fractures in Nairobi Hospital’s governance and the ongoing debate over how to manage internal disputes without external escalation.
