Persons with disabilities have achieved a major victory with the appointment of Isaac Mwaura as the new government spokesperson. This historic decision made by President William Ruto reflects progress towards inclusivity and equal representation in government roles.

Announced on Wednesday evening by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, these appointments also include Ms. Mwanaisha Chidzuga and Gabriel Muthuma as Mwaura’s deputies. They will oversee operations at the National Government Communications Centre, the Government Media Centre, as well as the Directorate of Information, and all County and Sub-County information offices, along with other related entities. This broad scope of responsibility underscores the importance of their roles in shaping government communication.

The Government Spokesman also supervises content published on all government channels, including the Kenya News Agency and MyGov, ensuring the dissemination of accurate and timely information to the public.

Isaac Mwaura takes over from Colonel (Retired) Cyrus Oguna, who was appointed the Government Spokesperson on May 7, 2019, and resigned last year to take up the position of Chief of Staff at the Siaya County Government. Mwaura’s appointment now fills this crucial position, bringing fresh perspectives and abilities to the forefront of government communication.

Mwaura was among the 50 Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) appointed by President Ruto before their appointments were thrown out by the courts, which declared them unconstitutional. His journey to the role of government spokesperson demonstrates his resilience and determination in the face of challenges, ultimately leading to this historic appointment.
