Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard has brushed off criticism from club legend Tony Adams, who recently suggested that the midfielder should be stripped of the armband. Ødegaard, speaking to The Athletic, insisted he is not affected by outside opinions and remains focused on his game.
“I don’t care that much, to be honest. Everyone can have their opinion and say what they want, and I’m alright with that. I can’t care about what everyone says. There’s a lot of negative and positive things to say, but I can’t let it affect me. That’s what I’ve thought throughout my career,” Ødegaard said.
Adams, a former Arsenal captain who lifted multiple league titles with the club, had argued that Declan Rice would be a better leader and that Arsenal would struggle to win the Premier League under Ødegaard’s captaincy. His remarks sparked debate among pundits and fans over leadership dynamics within Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Arteta, however, revealed that the players themselves had overwhelmingly voted for Ødegaard to continue as captain, showing the faith and trust he commands in the dressing room. Despite external criticism, the Norwegian playmaker maintains full backing from his teammates and coaching staff as Arsenal push for silverware this season
