Manchester United have confirmed that Brazilian midfielder Casemiro will leave the club this summer following the expiry of his contract at the end of the 2025/26 season, bringing to a close a successful four-year spell at Old Trafford.
The club announced that it will not activate the option to extend the 33-year-old’s deal, meaning Casemiro will depart as a free agent. United thanked the midfielder for his professionalism, leadership and contribution during a period of transition for the club.
Casemiro joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in August 2022, arriving as one of the most decorated midfielders in world football. He made an immediate impact, providing stability, experience and authority in midfield.
During his time at Old Trafford, Casemiro helped United win two major trophies — the Carabao Cup in 2023, ending the club’s six-year trophy drought, and the FA Cup in 2024, where he was influential in the latter stages of the competition.
Individually, Casemiro was a standout performer in his debut season, earning a place in the Premier League Team of the Season (2022/23) and being voted Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year runner-up.
Across all competitions, he made over 150 appearances for the club, scoring crucial goals in domestic cup finals and high-profile league matches, while also serving as a senior leader in the dressing room.
Before joining United, Casemiro enjoyed a glittering career at Real Madrid, winning five UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga crowns, and multiple domestic and international honours — experience he brought to the United squad.
Manchester United said fans will have the opportunity to honour Casemiro’s contribution during the closing stages of the season, acknowledging his role in restoring a winning mentality at the club.
Casemiro has described his time at Old Trafford as “special,” thanking supporters and teammates, and has pledged to give his all until his final appearance in a United shirt.
