Manchester City are in advanced talks to sign Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo during the January 2026 transfer window. The 25-year-old attacker has a £65 million release clause in his contract that becomes active from January 1 to January 10, allowing clubs to secure his services for the fixed fee.
Sources say the final details of the release clause are being sorted between Manchester City and Bournemouth, with both clubs working to ensure a smooth transfer once the window opens. City are understood to be the only club to formally open discussions with Bournemouth regarding the clause so far.
Semenyo’s representatives are reportedly in Manchester to finalise personal terms with City, including contract length, salary, and potential bonuses. The winger is said to be motivated by the prospect of joining a club competing for domestic and European honours.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has stressed that Semenyo has not yet played his final game for the club and could feature in upcoming Premier League matches. He expressed a desire to retain the winger as long as possible to help the team in its fight for points.
Despite reported interest from other top clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea, sources suggest that City have taken the clear lead in securing Semenyo’s signature, largely due to their early approach and willingness to meet the release clause.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has not publicly confirmed the deal and declined to comment on Semenyo’s future, saying he had no update. However, insiders indicate that the transfer is likely to be finalised early in the January window, pending the completion of all formalities.
