Harry Maguire has been handed an additional one-match suspension by the Football Association, ruling him out of Manchester United’s Premier League fixture against Chelsea.
The decision follows an independent FA regulatory commission ruling connected to his red card during Manchester United’s 2–2 draw with Bournemouth on March 20.
Maguire was initially sent off for a foul on Bournemouth striker Evanilson that denied a clear goalscoring opportunity, an incident that also led to a penalty being awarded.
After the dismissal, he was reported to have confronted fourth official Matt Donohue and used abusive or improper language while leaving the pitch, triggering the separate disciplinary charge.
The FA formally charged him on April 1 for improper conduct and gave him a deadline to respond before the matter was concluded.
He has already served the automatic one-match suspension linked to the red card, meaning the new ruling adds an extra game ban.
The disciplinary commission found his behaviour towards match officials breached FA rules governing player conduct.
The sanction also included a £30,000 fine, which Maguire accepted alongside the charge, according to FA proceedings.
The additional suspension means Manchester United lose a senior defender for a crucial league clash in their push for European qualification.
The case has drawn attention because it comes amid wider scrutiny of player behaviour toward officials in the Premier League this season.
United are expected to adjust their defensive setup again due to multiple absences in the back line during the same period.
The FA ruling is final, confirming Maguire will not be available for the Chelsea match at Stamford Bridge.
