Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Thursday flagged off eight new vehicles for the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), bringing the institution's total fleet to 158 nationwide.
The new additions, consisting of four double-cabins and four buses, are aimed at enhancing clinical training, administration, and community health outreach across the college's 91 campuses in 45 counties.
In a social media post, CS Duale emphasized KMTC's critical role in the country's healthcare system, noting that it produces 85% of Kenya's mid-level health workers.
He said the professionals are key to the successful implementation of the Taifa Care Model and the government's pursuit of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The Health Ministry Boss highlighted recent achievements by the college, including the enrollment of 11,058 new students. KMTC is also on track to graduate 22,000 students by December, a development expected to significantly strengthen both the national and global health workforces.
He further commended KMTC leadership for their vision, including expansion and more vehicles, and reaffirmed the government's support through the Affordable Housing Programme for student hostels, as well as ongoing reforms to modernise infrastructure, recruit more lecturers, and equip campuses for the future of healthcare.
The CS was flanked by prominent health sector leaders, including Health Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth, KMTC Board Chairman Mr. Joseah Cheruiyot, and CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch.
