Kisii Women Rep On Priority Projects
Kisii County Women's Representative Dorice Aburi has singled out water provision to residents as her first priority in office.
The Women Rep who remarked that water was her key in the election campaign, pledged to avail it to the residents to enable them to grow food at a time they grapple with the current severe drought condition.
Speaking at Kiobegi in Nyamache sub-county, Aburi clarified her involvement in the ‘Donya Charity Mission’, which she established, was never in her priority projects but done on a part-time basis.
According to her, the charity was a means to visit residents and understand their plight while donations received were handed over to the office of the County First Lady for distribution.
She intended to sponsor a motion in the National Assembly to entrench Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the education curriculum so that the girl-child could understand its harmful effects.
Aburi hinted the distribution of sanitary towels to school-going girl-child had been ordered transferred by President William Ruto to the office of the Women's Rep for easy access.
Nominated ward rep, Beatrice Kerubo supported Aburi’s efforts to provide water to women who covered long distances to fetch the commodity.
Kisii County Assembly Deputy Speaker, Jacob Bagaka described the charity mission as having transformed the lives of women, youths, and persons with disabilities.
He called for its support to ensure more needy people were covered.
