This week, the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) is celebrating Deaf Awareness Month in a unique way through different activities such as civic education and training, cancer screening, and sports.

The goal of these activities is to raise awareness of the Deaf community and its culture, as well as to provide the Deaf community with access to important services and information.

On Tuesday, KISE hosted a civic education and training workshop for the Deaf community. The workshop covered a variety of topics including tax exemptions and return filing.

The day was graced by Charlene Ruto, the daughter of President William Ruto, who pledged her support to the Deaf community.

On Wednesday, KISE in collaboration with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) trained the Deaf about various tax exemptions they are eligible for, as well as the process for filing tax returns. They also learned about the importance of paying taxes and how their tax contributions are used to fund government services.

Free cancer screening for Deaf people has also been ongoing since the event kicked off, the screening is being conducted by qualified medical personnel.

ENT assessment, which stands for ear, nose, and throat assessment, is also being offered at the KISE grounds. ENT assessment is important for detecting and diagnosing a variety of conditions, such as hearing loss, tinnitus, and allergies.

Deaf Awareness Month is celebrated in September of each year. The purpose of Deaf Awareness Month is to raise awareness of the Deaf community and its culture. It is also a time to celebrate the contributions of the Deaf community to society.
