The Mombasa County government sports team have made way to Kisumu County to take part in the ninth edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) from January 15th to 21st.

The event has attracted more than 35 counties, expected to battle it out in different disciplines among them football, basketball and chess with the teams also expected to participate in cultural dances and choir competitions.

Speaking during flag handing over ceremony to the county team, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir said financial constraints have forced the county sports department to trim its sports team to nine sports disciplines.

Nassir however assured County team they will be paid their seven days traveling allowances to cater for their needs.

“We held a closed-door meeting with sports representatives and we agreed on the payment of the pending traveling allowance,” he pointed out.

According to Mombasa County senior sports officer Hamid Abubakari, 100 county employees will take part in the event in the fields of Football, Athletics, Traditional dance among others.

“Our Draughts board game team always emerges the overall winner, badminton team scoops the second overall winner while our traditional dance team emerges third overall,” said Hamid.

The games were previously known as Kenya Inter-Municipal Sports and Cultural Association (KIMSCA) and were organised by the defunct local authorities.

The events venues include Moi Stadium, Kisumu Day, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex, Cosmopolitana Club, Aga Khan Hall, Kisumu National Polytechnic, Joventures Hotel, Dubai Complex, Nyanza Golf Club and Grace Onyango Social Hall.
