Kiambu Governor Wamatangi Honoured With Governance Award

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi had been awarded the Distinguished Public Service and Governance Award from IFP Global Advocates of Peace (GAP) Kenya, a United Nations-endorsed initiative.
Kimani Wamatangi has been awarded the Distinguished Public Service and Governance Award by IFP Global Advocates of Peace Kenya in recognition of his leadership and contribution to public service in Kiambu County.
The award was presented in acknowledgement of the governor’s commitment to transformative governance, community empowerment and sustainable development through projects implemented under his administration since taking office.
IFP Global Advocates of Peace Kenya praised Wamatangi for championing reforms aimed at improving service delivery, expanding access to healthcare, upgrading infrastructure and promoting economic growth across the county.
Among the projects highlighted during the recognition were the construction and rehabilitation of roads, installation of solar-powered street lighting under the Angaza Kiambu programme and expansion of modern market infrastructure aimed at supporting traders and small businesses.
The county government has also invested heavily in the health sector, including the expansion of dialysis services at Thika Level V Hospital and the construction and upgrading of several Level IV and Level III hospitals in different sub-counties.
Wamatangi’s administration has further been credited with enhancing revenue collection through digitisation and automation of county systems, a move that has significantly boosted Kiambu’s own-source revenue in recent financial years.
Youth empowerment and sports development programmes introduced by the county government were also cited among the initiatives contributing to the governor’s recognition, including football tournaments and the development of modern sports facilities.
Speaking after receiving the award, Wamatangi reaffirmed his commitment to improving the lives of Kiambu residents through accountable leadership, inclusive development and continued investment in critical sectors of the economy.
The recognition adds to a growing list of accolades earned by the Kiambu governor both locally and internationally, as his administration continues to position the county among the leading devolved units in governance, urban development and service delivery in Kenya.
