Kenyans Shine At The 19th World Athletics Championships
The 19th World Athletics Championships kicked off on Saturday in Budapest, Hungary, and Kenyan athletes made their presence felt on the first day of the competition.
Daniel Simiu Ebenyo gave Kenya its first medal of the championships in the men's 10,000m. He finished second in a time of 27:01.11, behind Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei, who defended his title in 26:49.04.
In the men's 1500m, Abel Kipsang and Reynold Cheruiyot both qualified for the final. Kipsang finished second in his semi-final in a time of 3:34.70, while Cheruiyot was sixth in 3:35.26.
Faith Kipyegon also advanced to the final of the women's 1500m. She won her semi-final in a time of 3:55.14.
However, Ferdinand Omanyala failed to medal in the men's 100m. He finished seventh in his semi-final in a time of 10.02 seconds.
The final day of the competition will take place on Sunday, and Kenya will be hoping to add to its medal tally.
