Kenya Met Warns of Heavy Rains in Nairobi, Machakos, Migori and Homa Bay

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in several parts of the country from today through Tuesday, with residents urged to remain alert. The rainfall is forecast to intensify over the next few days before gradually easing toward midweek.
Counties expected to be affected include Nairobi, Machakos, Migori and Homa Bay, alongside other areas within the highlands east and west of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin. The rains may be accompanied by thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
According to the forecast, some areas could record significant rainfall amounts within 24 hours, raising the risk of flash floods, especially in low-lying zones, informal settlements and along riverbanks. Urban flooding may also disrupt transport and daily activities in major towns.
The Met Department has advised residents in the affected regions to take precautionary measures, including avoiding flooded roads and monitoring weather updates, as the rainy conditions persist over the next few days.
